All Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program families are large families.
The typical household size of Housing Choice Voucher participants in Oak Park is one to two people.
Most of the families on the Section 8 Program are welfare recipients.
Less than 10% of the families that participate in the Oak Park Housing Authority’s Housing Choice Voucher Program are TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and General Assistance, recipients.
The OPHA Payment Standards include all utilities and appliances provided by the owner. All rents are subject to rent reasonableness determination and therefore, not all units may qualify for the rent indicated in the Payment Standards schedule. The Payment Standards are listed by Zip Codes within the Village of Oak Park.

The OPHA conducts inspections on all units leased to our HCV families prior to initial occupancy. The OPHA use HUD’s Housing Quality Standards when conducting these inspections. The OPHA has also adopted the Housing Code Regulations of the Village of Oak Park as part of its inspection process.
In addition to the HQS inspections prior to initial occupancy, the OPHA conducts biennial HQS inspections on the unit every other year, based on its location within one of the Village of Oak Park’s twelve Census Tracts (8121 through 8132). If a unit is located in an even-numbered Census Tract, it will be inspected during the even years and if a unit is located in an odd-numbered Census Tract, it will be inspected during the odd years.
