The OPHA is committed to providing
excellent customer service to our program participants and
the public at large. The OPHA has worked hard to dispel
the misconceptions concerning
the (Section 8) Housing Choice Voucher Program. The Housing
Choice Voucher Program offers property owners the opportunity
to provide safe, decent and sanitary housing to low income
families while benefiting from the advantages the HCV program
offers.
The OPHA will refer your available vacant
unit(s) to our HCV families that are currently searching
for units within Oak Park. Click

Misconceptions

Fact |
| All Section 8 families are large families. |
The average family size of Housing Choice
Voucher participants in Oak Park is 2.11 persons. |
| If you rent to one Section 8 family,
you must rent to more. |
If an owner rents to one HCV family,
he/she is not required to rent to other HCV families.
The OPHA asks that owners rent not more then 25% of
their building’s units to families that participate
in the Housing Choice Voucher Program. |
| Most of the families on the Section 8
Program are welfare recipients. |
Less then 10% of the families that participate
in the Oak Park Housing Authority’s Housing Choice
Voucher Program are TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families) and General Assistance recipients. |
Payment Standards
The OPHA Payment Standards include all utilities and appliance
provided by the owner. All rents are subject to rent reasonableness
determination and may not qualify for the rent indicated
in the Payment Standards schedule.
